Formed in 2005, Choo Smith Enterprises offers one of the premier basketball camps and training services in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area. Below are a few key questions and answers with Charles “Choo” Smith about his growing organization.

  1.  What makes your training sessions so different from other basketball training organizations?

Smith: As a former professional basketball player, I realize that you have to get into the head of the child. You have to determine how to motivate that child. I get into the pure essence of the child. I also concentrate on teaching them the fundamentals of basketball. I also want to develop the whole child. I also like to develop mental toughness. There are a lot of children that do not know how to handle everyday situations.

  2. Is the training that you have for girls the same as the boys?

Smith: Yes, I believe that when you are developing a basketball player and a person involving life skills, they go hand in hand. There is no separation, everything is cohesive, whether it is basketball, becoming a doctor or whatever the occupation. I also allow the females to compete against the guys because their learning skills are enhanced when going up against stronger competition.

  3. What is one thing people should know about you?

Smith: I feel it is my responsibility to give back to the children in Baltimore. Someone took a chance on me that lead to my success. I feel I should be able to do the same for the children I work with.

  4. What makes this all worthwhile for you?

Smith: I am big kid at heart. I dreamed as a young child and I want the generation coming behind me to be able to dream like I did.
